Mission Opportunity for Summer 2012

Every week at the end of each worship service, we state that we will be "Christ's Hands to Serve."  For the past several years, FPC has been supporting the Re-Member Mission on the Pineridge Indian Reservation in South Dakota as one of the ways we can serve.  This year we have reserved 12 spaces for the week of August 11-17.  This is a working/learning experience serving the neediest people in the U.S. If you are interested in this as a means to use your hands to serve, contact Marge Coffey at 842-7686, or macoffey45@gmail.com. You can also find out more about Re-Member by visiting their website at www.re-member.org.

 How You Can Help:

Supper House - The fourth Monday of every month, volunteers from First Presbyterian
Church help serve dinner at the "Supper House" in Muskegon.  Donations of food items
such as canned fruit and vegetables, pudding and cookies are very much appreciated and needed.
Barbara Scott is the contact person for this ministry.

Quarterly Blood Drives - every three months, the American Red Cross runs a
blood drive at First Presbyterian Church.  Volunteers are needed for the registration table
and to help serve refreshments to those who have donated blood.  Donations of juice
and/or cookies are also appreciated.
The blood drive coordinator is Diane Jones.

Funerals - If you are able to volunteer a few hours of your time to help set-up, serve,
or clean-up for funeral luncheons, we are always grateful for your help.  Because of
the nature of funerals, volunteers must be available at short-notice.
Please contact the church office if you would like to be called to help with funerals.

Hands to Serve - twice a year, members sign up for various projects in the community
and projects at the homes of church members who are unable to complete these projects themselves.

Prayer Shawl Ministry - The members of the prayer shawl ministry create comforting
healing shawls for those in our church community who are ill.  The recipients of these shawls
are able to surround themselves with "knitted prayers" as they rest and recuperate.
If you have any questions regarding this ministry, please contact Judy McAlister

Monthly Food Donations - the first Sunday of every month we collect
non-perishable goods for local food pantries.  Donations may be brought in to the
church office at any time.
